It feels nice to get elderly people into the spirit of the Christmas. Seeing them enjoy what we do for them and putting smiles on their faces makes me feel good as as member of the club. As for the game of Bingo, I wish we had more time for two more rounds because the man I was assisting was VERY close! I hope they come back next year and participate in our LYN activities!

It was my first time being host and it was an interesting experience. I really didn't have to do much since Cheng was doing the talking and he was doing it a lot better than I could've. It felt really good that we're doing something for the elderly. Seeing their smiling faces make me feel happy too. It was fun. I'm looking forward to doing it another year.

The Light and Love Home Open House was my first volunteer event in a long time so I was quite nervous when entering the place. However, since I was given instructions right away, everything went by fast and I met a lot of new people. The whole event was impressive because it was simply an amicable atmosphere. I was impressed by the talented and benevolent performers and speakers during the show too. I think this was a really fun and nice event to join.

Easter Party
Date: April 8, 2012
Location: Khayelitsha, Cape Town
I really enjoyed the Easter Party. I enjoyed helping the little ones about making the bunny ears, seeing them making funny designs and being confident about them. The drama was amazing and the children were singing beautifully. I really enjoyed watching them doing their traditional dance. It was cool hiding the Easter eggs but at the same time difficult because we wanted to make it easy for the little children to find the eggs. Everything was great! It was nice helping at the kitchen, too. I really enjoyed the party and I'm sure the children did too.

"自己第一次由零開始去完成一個活動,完成的過程不容易,但完成的結果往往令人最滿足. 記得當初知道有這個探訪活動時,心想:我真的能把它完成嗎?沒錯!一個人是無法完成的,但我寶貴有一班很好的會員。大家分工合作,各自負責自己的部份,令每個人的工作量平均。"
This is my first time help out in organizing an event from beginning to the end and it’s definitely not an easy task; nevertheless, seeing the result of all the hard work we put in is very rewarding. I still remember when I first heard about this visit, I thought to myself, “Am I able to organize this whole event?” Of course, only one man’s effort is not possible, but it is possible with a group of precious club members and we cooperate and split up the tasks.

"我還在這次的義工服務中學會了要主動去與長者談話,多關心他們,令他們不會感到孤獨,以及為他們帶來溫暖和快樂。正所謂「助人為快樂之本」,對我們這些義工來說,何嘗又不是一種快樂呢?” “透過這個義工服務,令我從中獲益不少,學會了去欣賞長者有禮的態度,同時亦令我度過了一天有意義、有趣、快樂的日子。"
In this senior visit, I learned that I need to take more initiatives to talk to the senior and care about them so that they won’t feel lonely but to give them warmth and happiness. IN addition, it is also pleasure for us as volunteers to help them. Through this volunteer event, I have learned how to appreciate the senior’s politeness and manners; meanwhile, I have also had a very meaningful, interesting and happy day.

I really enjoyed singing Christmas carols with the Seniors! I love Christmas carols because it really brings in the Christmas cheer and reminds us of what Christmas is really all about. Seeing the seniors laughing and smiling as they sang gave me great joy. I really wanted to help them to remember their Christmas. The event was very simple, but extremely rewarding and enjoyable.

Light and Love Home Summer Day Camp

During the Summer of 2011, I volunteered as Day Camp teacher. The environment helped me to smile more and be more care free. I used to be stressed out for small, little things. So, you can imagine what my facial expression usually is. I found my small improvement very down to earth and can benefit others. Smile, and the world will smile back.
